Not THE method but A method,
The other method is as what explained at the begining of this thread. Both ATG and Satellite methods are used - both have heir advantages as well as disadvantages. So its up to the Airline to decide which is best for them. GoGo also has a satellite system wi-fi connectivity but their ATG is more popular I guess.
