Primary Economy of Sri Lanka is based on a import value over export value (trade balance). In that context, with a depreciation of the Rupee will strengthen the the US$ where we will pay more for Imports. This will push our trade balance deficit further.
To make you understand better, we Sri Lankans will start paying more from a Panadol Tablet to the oil we import going further. Hence, expect petrol,diesel & Kerosene to push further up which will in-turn inflate the COL index. To bridge the gap of the trade deficit the government will have to force itself to leak out the treasury through foreign borrowing or increase tax revenue through added taxation policies.
I think you all "jump before the gun" runners of the race, should ask your self to what extent were the tidings promised in the 2011 budget proposals were granted to the "Public" of this country?
