this sounds logical..

i drive a manual..and i put it to neutral in the lights just so that i don't have to keep the clutch pressed hard. good for your legs

I miss having a manual shifter..

No you're wrong. Whenever you fully press down on the break car decide (they're programmed) to cut the extra power to the engine and keeping on engine idle that's the another thing with torque converter. So if you switch to N, you still have to press the breaks and engine rev will be higher! since it's not transferring power to the wheels. So fuel wise changing to N wouldn't be ideal anyway.
