As of mid-2025, the **Sri Lanka national cricket team** can be considered an **average to occasionally good** team — **not consistently strong**, but capable of competitive performances.

    ### Here's a breakdown of their standing:

    ---

    ### 🔹 **Strengths**

    * **Talented young players**: Sri Lanka has promising emerging players, especially in white-ball formats.
    * **Spinners and subcontinent conditions**: Strong at home, especially with spin-friendly pitches.
    * **History of success**: A proud cricketing legacy (1996 World Cup winners, 2014 T20 World Champions).

    ---

    ### 🔹 **Weaknesses**

    * **Inconsistent performances**: They often struggle to maintain form, especially away from home.
    * **Inexperienced batting lineup**: Batting collapses are a recurring issue.
    * **Fast bowling depth**: Less threatening compared to top teams like India, Australia, or England.

    ---

    ### 🔹 **Recent Form (as of 2025)**

    * Mixed performances in ODIs and T20s.
    * Struggling in Test cricket against stronger sides.
    * Generally competitive against lower or mid-tier teams (like Afghanistan, Ireland, Bangladesh), but often outplayed by top-tier sides.

    ---

    ### Summary:

    | Format | Global Standing |
    | -------- | ------------------------ |
    | **Test** | Below average |
    | **ODI** | Average to decent |
    | **T20I** | Occasionally competitive |

So overall, **Sri Lanka is an average international team right now**, with **potential to improve** if their young talent matures and their consistency improves.

Would you like a comparison with a specific team (like Pakistan or Bangladesh)?

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will conduct an Domestic T20 triangular tournament starting August 7, following the postponement of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) that was initially scheduled for this month.

With the LPL pushed back and no international fixtures until the Zimbabwe tour later in August, SLC has seized the opportunity to organize a competitive series aimed at fine-tuning the national T20 squad. The tournament comes on the back of Sri Lanka’s 2-1 T20I series defeat to Bangladesh, which exposed vulnerabilities in the middle order—especially at No. 4 and No. 6—and highlighted inconsistency in fielding.

“To prepare for the Zimbabwe tour, we’re organising a triangular T20 series featuring three teams. We have several players in contention for key roles, and this will help us assess who’s in form,” said Chief Selector Upul Tharanga.

The selectors will name three squads drawn from national and ‘A’ team players, with each team playing four round-robin matches. The top two sides will meet in a final. The tournament will serve as the main trial to pick the T20I squad for the Zimbabwe series scheduled for the final week of August and Asia Cup in September.

Ahead of the series, SLC has invited renowned power-hitting coach Julian Wood to conduct a special training program for 25 shortlisted players from July 30 to August 5. (Newswire)
