For starters...as a Sri Lankan living in Sri Lanka (or any other country) you cannot buy a car from a manufacturer's dealership in Japan. Due to warranty obligations and the sales and registration procedure involved they CANNOT sell a car to a foreigner not living in Japan. So if you want to buy a car direct from a manufacturer's dealer then you need to buy it through a person/organization who/that is living/registered in Japan. For example they do not release the car to you until you get parking clearence etc from the city council and then you need to have an inkan (or a certification of your signature) to stamp the registration papers, etc...things you as a Sri Lankan not living in Japan will not have.

Its not a hassle. There is no difference form buying a auction or outside. If you want to get this done, you need to have someone who can buy the vehicle for you in japan (example Mum dad brother hora geni etc).

Then they have to register the vehicle in the city office.

The person should have a valid license, and a parking space for the vehicle otherwise most of the city offices will not register the vehicle.

Now officially your vehicle is registered and a used vehicle.

After some time you need to de-register the vehicle and get the de-registration certificate.

Then you need to get the export certificate. This require the former de-registration certificate.

Then the person should get the JEVIC certificate stating that the vehicle is in good condition.

Then you need to find a logistics company to handle the shipping and in country transportation since the vehicle is not de-registered.

Need to get the insurance for the shipment, logistics companies will help you with this.

You have to open an LC in a bank in japan, and give all the true copies of the documents to the bank in japan. They will send it to your bank once you open the LC.

Ones the vehicle is cleared the LC is paid to the guy in Japan.

This is the general actions required. There are few more things here and there but this is the general process. In sri lanka most of the guys get a Japanese company to do this for you, but you can do this if you live in japan.

No. You need to have someone who has a visa which is not short term visitor. [More than 3 months] Anything else will do.
