    I have this too. I use an ice pack to mitigate the pain.
    It's a common problem. Affects both the males & females. Usually after 40 years but depends on lifestyle and weight etc. These ligaments bear strain and undergo the usual wear & tear causing the plantar fascia to inflame or to degenerate causing pain.
    Yes, like you do you can manage it with ice, or an arch support in your shoe and sometimes anti-inflammatory drugs.
    Also useful are Night-splints, a kind of brace that holds your foot. Another method is to tape your foot using Kinesiology tape (K-Tape , the ones that 's used by athletes) or just the standard Zinc Oxide tape.
    That's why I wrote to visit the local doctor so that he can examine the foot, explain and provide advice.
