කොහේ දැම්මත් හදන්න බැරි උන් ඉන්නවා. හැබැයි සාමානය මිනිස්සු හොද රටකට ගියාම , ඒ සිස්ටම් එකට ගරු කරගෙන මෙහෙ හිටිය වගේ අනුන්ගේ කුණු හොයන්නෙත් නැතුව , තමන්ගේ පාඩුවේ ජිවත් වෙනවා.
මෙහෙ ඉද්දි එහෙම නෑ . චාන්ස් එක ආපු ගමන් කාගෙහරි දෙයක් කඩාගන්න බලනවා, අනිත් එකාට කලින් තමන්ගේ දේවල් කරගන්න බලනවා, ඉවසීමක් නෑ , ඕපාදුප හොයනවා, පාරේ යන්න දන්නේ නෑ . ඔය ලෙඩ හොද වෙන්ව පරිසරය මාරු උනාම .
ඔව් නායකයො වෙන ඉතාම සුළු පිරිසක් එහෙම විශේෂ traits තියෙන අය ඉන්නව. හැබැයි 99% වඩා ඉන්න අයගෙ කල්ච එක (ඕකට විනය කියන වචනෙ වැරදි මම හිතන්නෙ) හැදෙන්නෙ තියෙන සිස්ටම් එකට අනුව තමා.
ලංකාවෙ ප්රශ්නෙ ඔය නායකයාගෙ trait තියෙන අය අපිට නැතිම වීම. එතකොට එන අය හදන හැදෙන සිස්ටම් වලින් එලියට එන මිනිස්සු තමා මේ ඉන්නෙ
ඒ විනයත් විනයක් තමා මිනිස්සු හැසිරෙන විදිය.
එත් මම අදහස් කරේ අනික් අයට කරදරයක් නැතුව ඉන්න එක ගැන. උදාහරණයක් විදියට තැනකට ගියාම ඉන්න විදිය

වැඩේ කියන්නෙ උනුත් ආයෙ මෙහෙ ආවම මෙහෙ වගේ ඉන්න එකනෙ. අහ් එතකොට පෲ වෙනව රට තමා ප්රශ්නෙ කියන එක.

Many people have misattributed Singapore’s success to our flaws.
It’s like looking at your rich neighbour who is a stingy miser and telling yourself that scrimping and saving will bring you wealth.
Singaporeans do not choose to sacrifice personal freedom. We are born into it.
The Singapore you see today was a result of the combination of many geopolitical events coming into play with the local political climate. If you think a single powerful and benevolent dictator ascended down from heavens and led a 3rd-world country into a textbook economic success, then you have been misled by social media and groupthink.
The generation today was born into prosperity and lots of opportunities. We never had to protest just to be able to have our kids in the same schools as the others. We never had to join the army and fight wars just to be able to provide for our family.
All we had to do, is to study hard and join the workforce, or even find some time to support some causes we believe in. Even if we’re unhappy with the government today, we have good opposition parties that we can always join to support opposite views. We can still hold on to our jobs and our lives while doing all that.
We have lots of opportunities. Why would we complain? What do you expect us to sacrifice?
We are lucky. And we’re not complaining.
Many people believed we sacrifice personal freedom just to have a good life. The fact is if you give anyone, anywhere in the world, and any point in history the choice of personal freedom vs a good standard of living, chances are they would choose to have a better life.
We happened to be born into a little country which was part of a bigger movement among the ex-colonial countries, which happen to have a majority Chinese community, who happen to be separated from a bigger country, and at the same time having the right people born at the right time facing the right adversaries who made the right mistakes that allow a young emerging political party to consolidate power and make the right bets that paid off years later.
If you study the history of all ex-colonial countries, you’d probably come to the same conclusion that Singapore is lucky. It could have easily fall into a civil war or racial riots that would set us 10 years back, and lose out to the other Southeast Asian countries.
That answers the first part - we did not sacrifice personal freedom just to gain financial success. We were simply born into the hard work and good fortune of the previous generations.
Now, the 2nd part is should other countries consider this approach?
Yes. If they have a time machine.
Again, back to your rich stingy neighbour - if you become a miser, it doesn’t mean you would become rich.
The problem with lots of countries is that their political landscape is far more complex than Singapore’s, and their problems are far more deeper than economics and politics.
Simply “giving up personal freedom” would not save them. And more importantly, they don’t need to. Singapore is only one successful country who happened to lack certain expectations of the western world. There are other countries who have both.
Your Singaporean friend might just be patronising you. I do not believe for a moment that he is missing out any freedom in life.
He’s the rich miser who doesn’t want to tell you that he’s lucky.
