centOS is made for Servers , Ubuntu is made for desktop use.. most severs in nowadays are driven by CentOS or RHEL , centOS is also red hat based distro.
LTS versions are quite stable.. i'm using 13.04 since 13.04 is not LTS it is not stable as 12.04 but i couldn't stay with 12.04 when the release new versions
I was dual booting windows xp and fedora sometime ago.

why do you think 13.04 unstable ?
i think LTS give free security updates for 1 and half years for desktop versions
Not only pearlinux we can custormize ubuntu also to look and feel like apple
