i think tharanga is finally trying to seize the moment, he has a massive opportunity to re-launch his career, mathews going nowhere as captain, tharanga have a chance to lead sl in all 3 formats ,

i hope he gets a tattoo and grow hair like malinga and become a badass cricketer

Sanath Jayasuriya on Upul Tharanga.

Upul Tharanga is one of the finest openers SL has produced, but unfortunately he hasn't been a regular member of the team since 2012, even though he performed well whenever he got the chance. But now he has suddenly become the saviour of the SL team, as he has been the answer to fill the role of captain as well as opener, where he guided the SL team to a series win in Zimbabwe and now captaining the ODIs in SA, as well as on the upcoming tour of Australia. Jayasuriya and Tharanga have several partnership records together. The pair still holds the record for the highest opening partnership in ODIs.

Jayasuriya who opened with Tharanga from 2006 including the 2007 ICC World Cup said his partnership with him is still going strong.

"He has a very calm and quite personality. But he reads the game very well. Unfortunately, he missed at least two of his best years of his cricket career. I am sad about it. Right now he is batting well and as a leader he is very good with the players. He has done a tremendous job as leader," said Jayasuriya
