Very rare, but dominantly the tetracycline resistant ones. But Cuba reported in 2016, T. pallidum 23S ribosomal RNA gene mutations (A2058G and A2059G) that confer resistance to macrolide antibiotics. The A2058G mutation has a high prevalence rates in North America, Europe and Asia.
The obvious reason - Because of the extensive use of the macrolide-class antibiotic azithromycin in Cuba.
Penicillin still offers effective treatment for syphilis. However, the problem with Penicillin is that many are allergic to it.

PS: That's why I have mentioned not take antibiotics like lollies. I have posts done during the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week. every year related to this.
In Asia people change the doctor if they don't prescribe antibiotics. :(

Don't confuse Syphilis with Herpes. Syphilis is caused by a bacteria spirochete Treponema pallidum. Herpes is caused by a virus.

Though it was identified a century ago, sadly no approved vaccine exists. The bacteria itself is very flimsy, breaks apart easily and even difficult to grow in a lab. It has only about 1041 predicted coding sequences. It mutates to avoid the immune system. However, a US team has found that the one that varies the least is the outer membrane proteins. Further research is needed to figure out whether a vaccine could exploit this weakness.
There are a couple of vaccine candidates under test, also a recent tri-antigen vaccine, but none of these are approved. Hopefully one day someone will find a way.

PS: Syphilis does not spread by casual contact. Transmission is direct contact through sex. Also mothers can pass onto an unborn baby.
https://www.cdc.gov/std/syphilis/st...ere a cure for, damage the infection can cause.

    But syphilis is cureable.Isn't it?

Before the invention of penicillin, syphilis was a lethal disease. There was a separate subject in medicine called Syphilology. The most devastating one was congenital syphilis (transmitted from mother to child) where children were born with devil-like faces.
When you get syphilis, it is curable with penicillin. (one -three injections according to the stage)
You ll have to regularly visit STD clinic for 2 years to monitor the treatment response.
TPPA (or TPHA) will remain positive for life.
This will be a problem when you travel to some middle east countries for work.

Thank you @Stimulus mind for bringing this up.
Syphilis cases are rising so fast in the UK and Western world now.
(The main reason is more and more people have unprotected sex because they do not fear HIV now (due to PrEP)
