If you know who is reputed without any system or when the mass posting crap chat threads then why bother about the green boxes. Just leave it.
Its just an option for the existing social sense system you guys had

because it defies common sense. when the reputation system don't give the same out put as the old sense system, it leads to conflicts conflicts like the ones we are engaged in currently. you may be able to ignore such facts out of hand, but some can't seem to do the same.

why you only think about thumb system? When its not adding to individual ranking people will automatically go for the post count as reputation method. So lot of crap threads to increase the count and slow down the server.

posts counts will always continue to go higher, you might wanna bring another alternative solution for this other than trying to keep people from posting. and spamming didn't end with rep system, people still post 'bumps' smilies etc.. you should look at your own site every now and then

We are talking about the mass. Mass was after the post count or star accounts.
But now more people posting quality stuff or helping others than before.
Old members not agreeing for that coz they can't find their friends now, has no time even to check threads, or narrow minded to see only the stuff they like as quality and others are waste.

You can get a decent idea about that looking at the homepage and what thread are active.

IMHO by introducing reps system, clearly 2 things happened.
1. Increased competition within EK family.
2. gave somewhat less freedom to share thoughts.
