Yes... This was reported in January 2023 by a team from MIT, Harvard, Italy & Switzerland. Now they are trying to make a commercial product.

Also on another note, a week or so ago, the US DOE scientists from Sandia National Laboratories and Texas A&M University announced self healing metals. Even though this was demonstrated at nanoscale levels, one day there could be a possibility to develop materials that work in real life situations. It will completely change engineering. At the moment it's useless, unless it becomes become practical in a manufacturing setting.

In 2013, Michael Demkowicz -- then an assistant professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's department of materials science and engineering, now a full professor at Texas A&M -- began chipping away at conventional materials theory. He published a new theory, based on findings in computer simulations, that under certain conditions metal should be able to weld shut cracks formed by wear and tear.

Self healing metals would be interesting. Even micro scale would be useful. I guess it will probably be used in luxury watches first.

Ado me thinks that the reason for been able to be this creative is because they didn't have the knowledge we have now. The more you know the less creative you become

That is because you would always discourage yourself from experimenting because your mind says "What I know says it will not work. So don't waste your time" and many great discoveries were just accidents

Love to visit there.

Not to be missed place in Italy. It's a World Heritage site. The ticket covers the Palatine Hills visit. There are many things to see in this complex, it's not only the Colosseum. You can buy tickets online and avoid the queue. Note that these are priced differently depending on which areas are allowed. During the summer it's open till about 7 PM.

@vbDev.. Yes it was always thought that the ancient concrete’s durability was based on one ingredient: pozzolanic material such as volcanic ash from the area of Pozzuoli, on the Bay of Naples. This study shows that it goes way beyond that.
