It was different yes. But the communities change with time. It used to be educational discussions, reviews, career discussions etc but now it's mostly filth. But that's the trend I guess. Quite different from 15 years ago.

Probably the original admin sold the site and started a new venture, but that kinda thing never comes out.

The new guys are more into casual stuff as long as it gives hits for AdSense etc? Probably.

Anyway, it looks dying because only a handful of members post. Even that is mostly garbage and fighting.
So the forum may not die, but it won't get back the quality.

If someone has bought this from @GTRZ ; what's their business model to earn ? No single advertisement or anything here right. I believe @GTRZ maintain this as philanthropy; just pay for hosting & maintanece; some legacy work I think.
