Should it be decent,and attractive,does it harm our culture?

last night we were discussing about this but i think it was not very successful
So This All about Fashion and u are free to talk about anything and your opinion!

තමන්ට කැමති දෙයක් කිරීමේ අයිතිය කාට වුනත් තියෙනවා.........
ඒක නිසා තමන්ට කැමති දෙයක් සමාජයට අහිතකර නොවන විදිහට කලාට කිසිම වැරැද්දක් නැහැ......
ලස්සනට ඉන්නත්....... ලස්සනට ඉන්න අයව දකින්නත් ක‍වුරු වුනත් කැමති වෙයි මම හිතන්නේ.........

තමන්ට ගැලපෙන විදිහ දන්නෙ නම් ඉතින් තමන්ම තමා. ඒක ඉතින් එකිනෙකාට වෙනස් වෙනවනේ. ඒක අපිට කියන්න බෑ එයා අන්දින්න ඔනෙ මෙහෙම, මෙයා අන්දින්න ඕන මෙහෙම කියලා. ඔළුව කියන දෙය පාවිච්චි කරන්න ඕන තැනක් තමා මෙතන. මොකද සමාජයේ හිනාවට සහ උපහාසයට ලක්නොවෙන විදිහට ගැලපෙන දෙයක් කරන්න ඕන. මම කියන දේ තේරෙනව ඇති කට්ටියට..........

මුලින් ම වෙන්න ඕන ෆැෂන් වලදි තමන්ට ගැලපෙන දේ තෝරගන්න එක. හැමෝ ම කරන නිසා කරන්න යෑමේන් තමන්ගේ තියන ලස්සන නැතිවීම විතරක් නෙමෙයි වෙනත් ගැටලු පවා මතුවෙන්න ඉඩ තියනව. අවස්ථාවට, තමන්ට ගැලපෙන විදයට දේවල් කිරීමේ ගැටලුවක් නෑ මං හිතන විදියට. හැබැයි ඒ දෙයින් තමන් පළමුව සතුටක් ලබන්න ඕන. ඊට අමතරව ඉතින් සමාජයේ ගැවසෙන නිසා තරමක් ඒ ගැනත් හිතන්න වෙනව. හැබැයි ඉතින් ඕනම එක්කට අකමැති කැමති පිරිසක් ඉන්න නිසා තමන්ට සුදුසු දෙයක්නම් කරන්නෙ ඉතින් ගැටලුවක් වෙන්නෙ නෑ.

I think everybody should have the liberty to wear as they please without being judged or called a slut for it.. culture should be preserved and respected too but culture should not be this great mental stress that lies before us all.

a culture that stands in the way of human freedom is no good at all...and unfortunately, sri lankan culture has coming to be barely in synch with the way we feel.
it's not all about culture but I look at sl ppl and it makes me sad...like you can't even tell a girl that she's hot or sexy without she getting all worked up about it.

fashion in some sense, is a form of art..a way some people use to express themselves..and art is not to please other ppl but to express something deep or beautiful within yourself..if the rest can't tolerate your liberty, well the hell with em. .

..and art is not to please other ppl but to express something deep or beautiful within yourself. .

Well, you can't really deny the fact that one's intentions in attire are influenced by others, and by dressing so, it does involve some level of complying with others.

Adam and Eve chose to cover certain parts of their body, and the same level of exposure continues on (although in different forms).If they had not done that which influenced their children, we would all be butt-naked today.

I think there is a misconception of what culture is. Technically, culture is how people do stuff, and how they think, live, do everything, and it certainly is bound to change, or rather evolve over time.

By laying down the conditions that one should stick to the ways people dressed in history is not sticking to culture, but embracing history.

If culture is important and should pass down with time, howcome being topless for a woman is regarded as obscene today in Sri Lanka? The Sigiri people were alright with that.

Well, you can't really deny the fact that one's intentions in attire are influenced by others, and by dressing so, it does involve some level of complying with others.

yeah what you say is true and i don't deny it but should one's sense of fashion be influenced by what others think or should it involve some level of complying with others??? it is this very culture, this unhealthy force of collective criticism that derives a sense of guilt in your mind when you put something unconventional on isn't it..
just saying that in this day and age, the mind of the society should know better to not be intrusive of ones liberty in such an inappropriate way.
meh it ain't even a sense of guilt..it's just rather a irritating rule you have to go by ..just like getting your movie banned for having too many nudity in it

wasn't saying that we should walk around naked

anyway...people already had learned the wonders of clothing and that it is a sin to be naked in public by the time they wrote the bible right ..
