Akila Dananjaya's bowling action has been found to be illegal in an independent assessment, the ICC announced on Monday (December 10). Consequently, the Sri Lankan offspinner has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect.

However, with the consent of Sri Lanka Cricket, Dananjaya can continue to bowl in the domestic competitions under the purview of the national board.

Dananjaya was reported for a suspect action at the end of Sri Lanka's defeat in the first Test against England in Galle last month. He subsequently underwent an assessment on November 23 at the National Cricket Centre in Brisbane, where his deliveries were found to be exceeding the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under the regulations.

Dananjaya is free to apply for a re-assessment after undergoing remedial work on his action, and if the modified action passes the 15-degree rule, the bowler will be allowed to resume in international cricket.
