I think clarke was not in this series .he was not there in his mind .. Shots he played ,laid back approach and waiting dozen overs doing nothing It was all seen here . When the team is not doing well even the best of captains gonna be found out :) still the 2nd best captain for me (from the captains i hv seen)after stephen fleming yes stephen fleming hasn't got the higher winning percentage but with the team he had then even to come up with half of his stats would have made him par with others who had the privilege of leading a team with legendary world class performers:).
Hopefully clarke retires with a test win:)

thought to copy paste what I posted in the other thread :)

for me personally, he is up there as one of the best captains Australia has ever produced along with Ponting :) Unlike Ponting Clarke had to go through so many tough situations to build up Australia and ultimately win a World Cup too. He didn't have the likes of Gilly,Mcgra,Warne,Lee in his team. So to win a world cup with a young side with a short period of time goes you to show his class as a captain. winning 5 nill in the Ashes against Eng was pretty special too.So yeah he has been a special captain for Australia, there is no doubt about it, at least for me :)

Its just that in this series, no of the Australians could handle the swing/seam bowling conditions in England. credit to Englishmen they executed their plans really well and used the conditions perfectly. add salt to the injury, Australian bowlers couldn't help it with equaling to English bowlers. Its one of the worst performances Australia had in their cricket history, there is no doubt about that. When you had such a series of failures, I guess as a captain you have no option but to retire :(

Yes he is good test batsmen. true that he was a busy player early in his career just like smith is now :) I guess that goes off slightly when you get older. Yes he has been a quite a good fielder and as a part timer, his bowling was pretty useful too, specially when you consider that he is a SLA. Yeah definitely, this a perfect example of the brand of cricket and the quality of cricket these CA,Eng,SA has. specially Eng and CA, no matter how good a player you are and how legendary you are, if you are not performing its very hard to be in these teams.unfortunately though, unlike Ponting, Clarky still had lot to offer for Australian cricket.Leaving the captaincy would have been fine, but I don't know retiring was the right decision. :dull:

But then again you have to move on, and hopefully smith will be a good captain though doesn't seems like he is so far.I doubt the captaincy abilities of Marsh,Faulkner too.I mean it takes a special person to captain Australia.Waugh,Ponting,Clarke all those guys have been characters.may be Warner could be a good choice.you never know.

Its not only in this series. now this is the second time in a raw australia went down in Eng in an ashes series. last time it was saved by haddin and lower order from worse. even then they lost. Only two tests being won by aus in last 18 tests in Eng .

From the day one at Cardiff i felt they are not here mentally. it was so boring to see eng batters being feeded with over pitch length bowls continusly yes it was swinging but yet just did not get any dangerous. no change was made just waited to nick it.they just scored at an immaculate rate on day one at cardiff and it was it to say this will happen. Bounce back in lords gave everybody a thought it will not end like this but it was just one dead cat bounce before big collapse ..

It was his back problem that kept him away from cricket in last few yrs. it came to that serious few months back even to call the day then but the magician we had back in 1996 mr alex and staff made him available for world cup. He was blamed for slow starts vack then batting at no 6 after symonds he was a choice of cricket australia to groom under ponting with his agression .. Yes he did not have the previlage of having warne mcgrath gillepse or brett lee as much as ponting he had the culture built on with them. Yes there is no question he captained a side with lot of new players and then to win the world cup with that bunch of group make him as world class captain :)
