This is to express my point of view. It's not to hurt anybody's feelings. If I am wrong, anyone is welcome to present their own counter arguments.

Well... Software Developers or Programmers cannot be really be classified as Engineers. All this started in the USA with CNE & MCSE. Honestly in my experience most of the MCSEs cannot find their way out of a paper bag. Forget calling them engineers. That came out of the US terminology - the guy who pumps fuel is pump engineer. Sometimes I wonder why they didn't call somebody using a set of spanners as a Mechanical Engineer.

But Software Engineering does exist. Many universities offer this as a BSc Degree Program under their Faculty of Engineering. People who completed such an accredited program should be considered as engineers. I hope IESL has some sort of recognition for them. There should be some evaluation or assessment criteria, based on the course they did and their experience.

Personally I would not call someone doing web development, Database development & administration, or Mobile App developers as software engineers.

But there are embedded system developers, Robotics, Real time data acquisition and instrumentation system developers, kernel developers etc, whom you can classify as Software Engineers. But the fact is most of these people do possess an Engineering degree. Engineers do code and design software. Just because Engineers can program does not mean all programmers can be called Engineers.

what about the Computer Science students (B.Sc.) who come out from State/Pvt universities. I'm talking about 4 year degree programs (eg: ucsc)

there are computer science engineers. they have the ability to design the shit out from scratch. but software engineers are not engineers though private universities market the thing and became a norm

මම දන්නා අයියා කෙනෙක් ඉන්නවා එයා බිස්නස් කරන්නේ, පොරට IESL තියනවා. මම ඇහුවම කිව්වේ B.Sc (Physical Sc)+ M.Sc (Environ: Engineering) දාල IESL ගත්ත කියල. එහෙම බේසික් Degree එක Engineering නැතුව IESL ගන්න පුලුවන්ද බන් ???

කතාව වෙනස් කරන්න එපා Washington accord කතාව වෙනයි city and guilds කතාව වෙනයි.city and guilds අදාල වෙන්නෙ ecuk වලට. 2011 ට කලින් උබලගෙ iesl වගේම ecuk exam තිබ්බා අපේ අය දන්නෙ CEI කිව්වම. ඕක නැවැතුවම ඕකට alternative path එකක් විදිහට city and guilds graduate diploma / post grduate diploma කියල exam දෙකක් දුන්නා.

Graduate diploma එක කරන්න පුලුවන් city and guilds advance diploma එකක් හරි uk වල level 5 qualification එකක් හරි තියනව නම්(Btec HND එහෙමත් level 5) ඒකියන්නෙ AL / foundation අනන් මනන් මොන පුකක්වත් ඕන නෑ.

Bro, first of all what are your education qualifications ? you have barely passed ALs and trying to be an engineer at least did you able to get an engineering diploma ? you get hurt when others use their title as ENG ?

Is it the problem here?

Technically no because even if you don't have 2C+S you can get the membership. IESL has there own exam until 2020 and open uni has foundation etc. And also they accept London A/L So it's not a big deal even someone doesn't have the A/L. It's just stupid

BCS කරනවානම් ESOFT පලයන් නැත්නම් self study කරපන්.ESOFT එකෙන් වැඩි දෙයක් බලාපොරොත්තු වෙන්නෙපා එත් කස්ටිය සෙට් උනාම වැඩේ කෙරෙනවා.self study කෙරෙන්නේ නැහැ.
CINEC එකේ BCS තියෙනවා අවුරුදු 4ක් යනවා එක හින්ද තේරුමක් නැහැ.
කාලයයි සල්ලියි දෙකම අඩුවෙන් කරන්න පුළුවන් හොඳම qualification එක ඕක.

ඔව් බං මොරටුව කියල විශේෂයක් නෑ ඕක මේ ලංකාවේ උන් හදාගත්තු සීන් එකක්.ranking වල උඩම ඉන්නේ colombo uni. වෙන රටකට ගියාම ලංකාවේ කියන්න ඕනෙත් නෑ colombo uni කිව්වම දන්නව.පිළිගැනීම දෙකම එකයි.

නොදකින් යකෝ උබ දන්නා ලබ්බ. තෝ මොකෙක්ද යකෝ මෙහෙම දේවල් කියන්න. උබ AL fail වෙලා foundation course කරලද තාම ඉවර කරේ නැද්ද course එක. SLIIT යන්න බැරි උනේ ඇයි සල්ලි නැති නිසාද ? AL FAIL නිසාද ? උබගේ අම්මි තාත්තයි බැංකු වල නිසා සල්ලිනම් එච්චර අව්ලක් වෙන්න නැති ඇති. AL FAIL නිසා වෙන්න ඕනේ .
