A cartoon series would have done great. But only if there was no TV series.
Now it wouldn't get much popularity and will always be compared with the tv show.
Like me being very judgemental about the TV show

Specially there are some things a cartoon could do that a tv show cannot. And if done the right way and before the show it would have been fantastic.
Imagining an ASoIAF cartoon reminds me of berserker somehow
But again now wouldn't be a good time for that.

It's not good imo

1. Plot is obvious,dull and not that deserving of ASoIaF
2. Giving Jon a hero complex makes him drop out of character
3. Resolution & Ending doesn't have a good impact again deserving of ASoIaF

It's something I never want to see in ASoIaF.
I want to read something I'd never expect.

Yeah that should happen indeed the popularity will drop down a bit because of the popularity of the TV show.But at the same time much more details and information on the whole story including the subplots could be given.And a audience will love to see the different perceptions a character would take in an artistic medium.And a lot of stuff could be improvised with a much smaller budget which would be easy on the producers.Even though not on the same level as the TV show.I think it would still make an impact for the GOT and ASOIAF fans over the world.And of course this should take place after the TV series have finished!!
