These machines are built like tanks... They have excellent build quality......

True...& also the X series is very well built...but the problematic part is the battery, which is hard & expensive to find an original quality replacement

Agreed... build quality is the same... but CPU is not replaceable....the screen is small(12.5 inch) and more expensive than their T series counterparts...

Agree with Lenovo T/X series, Dell latitude/XPS being good. I've used a Lenovo T series one and it was really good.

ඔයාගෙ කතාව හරි. මම ඇනිමේෂන් ඉගෙන ගන්න කාලෙ තිබුනු කොම්පියුටරේ පෙන්ටියම් 4 එකක්. තප්පර දහයක් රෙන්ඩර් වෙන්න දවස් තුනක් විතර ගියා. එක ෆ්‍රේම් එකක් රෙන්ඩර් වෙන්න විනාඩි 17-20 ත් අතර. පස්සෙ ඒක දරාගන්න බැරුව හාඩ් එකත් ගියා. පස්සෙ මම ගත්තෙ කෝටුඩූ එකක්. අවුරුදු පහක් වෙනකන්ම මන් ඒක පාවිච්ඡි කලා. මට මගේ වැඩ වල හැටියට ඒක මදිවුනත් කොහොම හරි කලා. ගිය අවුරුද්දෙ තමයි අයි සෙවන් එකක් ගත්තෙ. ඒකත් සෙන්ඩ් ජෙනරේෂන් එකක්. දැන් මට සල්ලි තියෙනවා. ඒක නිසා මන් ගිය මාසෙ ගත්තා MSI I7, Ram 16, VGA 6gb තියෙල ලැපක්. ලක්ෂ 2.65 ක් වුනා. මන් දුක් වෙන්නෙ නෑ. මොකද දැන් මට තියෙන වැඩත් එක්ක ස්පීඩ් මැෂිමක් ඕන. ඉතින් කවුරු හරි ඉන්නව නම් සාමාන්‍ය වැඩක් කරගන්න බොරුවට ලොකු ගනන් දීලා ලැප්ස් ගන්න ඕන නෑ. මන් අවුරුදු 6 ක් විතර වෙනකන් පාවිච්ඡි කලේ 14000 ට ගත්ත ඩෙස්ක්ටොප් එකක්. ලඟදි තමයි අඟල් 27 මොන්ටරේකුත් ගත්තෙ. ඒක නිසා ලොකු ලොකු දේවල් ගන්න හදිසි වෙන්න එපා. පොඩි කොම්ප්‍යුටරයක් ඇති දෙයක් ඉගෙන ගන්න.

This is almost true... except for the RAM part... have atleast 8GB of RAM if you are doing programming....

Regarding thinkpad laptops...

thinkpad T420/520, T430/530, T440p/540p are the best options. you can find them below 200USD on ebay...
DO NOT buy T420s, T430s, T440 and T440s.. They come with ULV CPUs which lacks the performace...
You can upgrade the RAM upto 16GB.... also you can upgrade the CPU(processor) to a quad core CPU...
ADD a SSD and you have a laptop with great performance that does not break the bank....

A Thinkpad T440p/T540p/W540/W541 with a 4930mx/4940mx CPU has the same performance as a 8th gen i7 8565u CPU...
Also W520, W530, W540/W541(W stands for workstation) are great machines... RAM can be upgraded to 32GB in W series laptops....Has NVIDIA quadro graphics .... but they are expensive....

These machines are built like tanks... They have excellent build quality......

Most of these stands for thinkpad L series except for the build quality.... they are not as good s T series or W series but still better than most of the consumer series laptops...

I managed to get a thinkpad T540p with 16GB of RAM for 197USD, thinkpad L430 with 8GB of RAM for 50 USD, thinkpad T420 for 41 USD from ebay... (excluding shipping and import taxes)..all of them came with i5 processors...

The T540p was like an unused new machine...
The L430 had some little cosmetic wear....
The T420 has some noticable cosmatic wear(does not affect the performace) .... and came with a bad keyboard... I managed to find a good used keyboard for Rs 2000...
