    Most low cost multiimeters do NOT have protection on the 10A or 20A range. Only the expensive ones do.
    Sadly you used the wrong inputs. Always take care.
    FYI there are fused test probes - these feature a built-in fuse within the test probe itself that provides an additional layer of protection.

    මගේ ලග තියනවා mastech කියලා cheap chinese multimeter එකක්, ඒකෙ probes වැරදියට ගැහුවම beep එකක් සහ probes connector වල led සෙට් එකක් blink වෙනවා, protection නැතත් ඒ ෆීචර් එක වටිනවා.

    I have never used this product. However, Mastech is one of the best products under $50 multimeters and also has several features.
    I wasn't aware that it beeps if the inputs and the selector has a mismatch. It's certainly a nice feature to have, specially for an average user.:)
