I have a PhD but not a lecturer. I do not like academia. But In USA, lecturers are also in mid class. My PhD supervisors annual salary is 80,000USD per year. I know some SEs who make more than 130000 USD. I went to colombo uni, and I know that most of the lecturers there work hard. Most of them are in SL because of personal reasons. Lecturers have to teach (internal and external), do research, and also do academic management. Believe it or not, management takes more time. They also do councelling. I have seen that most people here have insulted lecturers as icemen. But in my experience, they are hard-working and I have to hand it over to them all my success. Without getting a Bsc degree for free, I could not come to USA. They have taught and helped a lot of young people. I guess many people forget that. Also, If you take Colombo uni most of the senior lecturers have a high number of citations and h-indexes. They do good research. However, In Sri Lanka research get little funding compared to other countries, so hard to do good research with limited funding. On the other hand, I agree that Sri Lankan academia does not have pressure like in USA because they do not have to publish. So there may be some lecturers who do not publish compared to others. And I do not know the quality of universities like UWA wellassa or ruhuna. Overall, I know that most of the lecturers have paved the way to for many young people to get better jobs, including me. Most of them are overseas living glorious lives. I am grateful for that service, but I do not know that helps Sri Lanka in anyway.
This is correct my cousin earns 3laks in colombo uni and she is senior lecturer. And you can do consultation and teach in private unis. I don't know whether the salary scale is different in other unis
