Why is a left-arm leg spinner known as a 'chinaman'?


Here goes the story.

During the 1933 old Trafford test match between England and West Indies, a West Indian left-arm orthodox spinner,Ellis Achong bowled an unorthodox delivery that turned from off to the leg and got the England batsman Walter Robins stumped. Incidentally, Achong was the first test cricketer of Chinese ancestry. It is believed that when Robins walked back to the pavilion, he said 'Fancy being done by a bloody Chinaman'. Hence, this unorthodox left-arm delivery since then was associated with 'chinaman'.

එම ලෝක කුසලාන තරගාවලියේදී ශ්‍රී ලංකා කණ්ඩායමේ නායකයා වූයේ මහේල ජයවර්ධනය. ක්‍රික්ඉන්ෆෝ වෙබ් අඩවිය හා සාකච්ඡාවකට එක්වෙමින් ඔහු මෙම අදහස් දැක්වූ අතර තම නායකත්ව කාලසීමාවේදී එවකට කණ්ඩායමේ ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ ක්‍රීඩකයන් වූ සනත් හා මාවන් පාලනය කිරීම අපහසු වූ බවද ඔහු මෙහිදී පවසා තිබේ.
