As I feel D5100 is better than 600D. Specially when you are beginner

Yes you can use lens of D60 with this. Both camera don't have a built-in focusing motor on body. So you will need AF-S lens for autofocus.

go for canon T3i .... but I'll add some thing + Sony n Fuji also do a nice job . their colours are more nice , sharp and saturate more than Canon or Nikon , but they r not considered as Pro cams Sony Alpha 580 is another awsm low budget cam .....

anyway dnt forget to buy some good lenses . that plays a major role in photography

Both da cams you mentioned are good.. but canon is a lil bit expensive even the equipment so if you can afford the lenses and stuff i say go for canon it has better HD video n all . and even nikon is good if your gonna do photography only specially i won't say video is bad but canon is the best for video..
