For me now it's too late to find a developer job machan. I really love programming and as a hobby what I did for nearly the past two decades was solving algorithmic problems (including those in platforms like TopCoder and CodeChef). I have a pretty strong grasp of Algorithms and Data Structures (and for fun I solved a couple of moderately complex algorithmic problems posted by forum members here and here ). However I have never developed a business application for the requirements of a client. And even if I could overcome my anxiety issues no employer will bother offering a developer job to a 39 year old guy with no commercial software development experience as they can find hundreds of talented young individuals.

But you are already an experienced IT professional. Even though I have coding skills I don't have some other skills like interpersonal skills, understanding business processes and GUI designing that are essential to be a successful developer.

If I didn't get panicked during the interviews I could have easily got a job machan. The coding assignments they gave me to solve were much more simpler than what I had solved before. I have anxiety issues and poor interpersonal skills. That is the biggest hurdle I have.
