If you are going to the US, you can buy a plan from there. Providers like Verizon welcome new connections and the phone can be bought for free (even iPhone 16). I highly recommend to join an already existing line (can have 10 mobile connections and 10 home internet connections) of someone, usually other Sri Lankans in the university have these lines and you will get a decent discount (ex: $45/month if you get a line to yourself or $35/month by joining a line)
If you want a budget friendly option, there are other careers with low plans even at $10/month, but the connection won't be as good as big providers.
