In shops like Keels, they estimate the demand for all items and set the supply accordingly. An empty rack doesn't mean a million more people want to buy them. Same logic applies to luxury kitchen sets and what's not.

Some stats from 2019. I'm sure figures are higher in 2021, but the proportions should stay.

Saying that, I wholeheartedly agree with the point that, if you want to live comfortably or even luxuriously, and you are willing to experiment and put real effort, Sri Lanka is not a bad choice.

Average household income in Colombo is 2.5 times that of Moneragala. We also need to look at it from a expenses perspective. For example someone earning 50K in Moneragala may have a much more comfortable life than someone earning 100K in Colombo city.
