Sri Lanka not among Wasim Akram's favourites to win WT20

Wasim Akram doesn't think Sri Lanka can win the T20 World Cup. © AFPDespite winning the Asia Cup recently in Bangladesh, the host country of the upcoming ICC WT20 2014, Sri Lanka are not in former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram's list of top three teams likely to win the WT20.
"For me Pakistan, India and the West Indies are top three favourites, as they play this format well and have enough experience at their disposal," Akram said speaking at a press conference in Karachi on Tuesday.
Sri Lanka have twice entered the finals of the WT20, and they recently completed a successful tour of Bangladesh, where they won the Test, ODI and T20 series, in addition to winning the Asia Cup that followed shortly after, which they finished as the only undefeated team.
Akram, who is now a TV commentator, believes his countrymen only need to "enter the event with a positive frame of mind" to win it, and criticised the Pakistani team for losing the Asia Cup final to Sri Lanka.
"I couldn't sleep for two days, as I failed to understand the manner in which we used our bowlers in the final," he lamented.
The fifth edition of the WT20 starts in Bangladesh on March 16. The tournament will see an unprecedented 16 teams vying for the title.
Sri Lanka's WT20 kicks off with a warm-up match against India in Mirpur on March 17.
