Not to be missed place in Italy. It's a World Heritage site. The ticket covers the Palatine Hills visit. There are many things to see in this complex, it's not only the Colosseum. You can buy tickets online and avoid the queue. Note that these are priced differently depending on which areas are allowed. During the summer it's open till about 7 PM.

@vbDev.. Yes it was always thought that the ancient concrete’s durability was based on one ingredient: pozzolanic material such as volcanic ash from the area of Pozzuoli, on the Bay of Naples. This study shows that it goes way beyond that.

When I go to europe my first stops will be Rome and Pompei. I am more excited about Pompeii than rome btw

Italy is quite big and there are many places to visit. Pompeii is one of them too. Another World Heritage site. Note that it can be hot in the summer. Also there is Herculaneum, which is another town nearby that was also devastated by the volcanic eruption. Less crowd here.

Don't forget the Leaning Tower of Pisa. We travelled eveywhere on a rental car. But for long distances the train is much faster. But we always like the convenience of the car. Stop where we like, go where we like and finally hand the car back at the airport, easy.
