Because it's rare. AB- is rarer... You are correct in saying that AB+ is a universal acceptor. Though they can accept other blood types it's always preferred to stick to the same type. That's why AB people are encouraged to donate blood in many countries.

yes but basically we care about those 8 groups because they are very aggressive. others also cause problems but that can be managed. and also they are rare.
