I'm not sure about GT's logic here.
In shops like Keels, they estimate the demand for all items and set the supply accordingly. An empty rack doesn't mean a million more people want to buy them. Same logic applies to luxury kitchen sets and what's not.

Some stats from 2019. I'm sure figures are higher in 2021, but the proportions should stay.

The interesting part is the last decile. Richest 10% (2 million people) has the mean income of 276K. Would be interesting to see how this distributes over those 2 million. My gut feeling is if you earn 500K per month, you are richer than 99% of the population ( meaning there would be around 250K people who might earn more than you)

I am not saying majority of the ppl can afford such things or we are rich as a country etc.. nothing like that.

Most of them have a family member working abroad. They get money from foreign countries.

I predict these catagories

1. Sri lankans from 1st world countries like Canada. , United kingdom and Australia. They even buy apartments in Bamba , marine drive , wellawatte , col-03 , etc

2. Sri Lankans who work in the middle east ( i am talking about accountants , bankers , IT guys, etc )

3. The rich Maldivian community who live around dehiwala , Mt Lavinia , col-06, nugegoda and ratmalana area. You might think they're Sri Lankan because they look the same.

4. Business owners.
