But this guy is talking about converting LKR to USD. You can't do it even you have HSBC global account in some other country. In order to transfer funds from lkr account to offshore account even within HSBC you should have permission from Central bank governor. And only his approval make you telegrahic transfer eligible. . But if you're in BOI project and your investment earnings are the funds you need to transfer then the story is different. ..

My father had a NRFC account many years ago. Its money was saves as USD. Any time he can withdraw in LKR to the exchange rate. To make such account it says we must provide long term visa to the bank. This is what I know.

That's true.. RFC can do that. But you can't withdraw as dollar dominations. In case you want to withdraw money will be convert to LKR over the counter at time of the withdrawal rate. But as I mentioned earlier you could get usd 2500 or equivalent if you produce a return air ticket.

That's true machan.. as far as I know in order to open NRFC you should have foreign permanent residency in any country.. but rfc is not required any rule such. In NRFC now you can even transfer funds upto usd 10000 to any foreign account you have in any country without governor's pre approval. This was introduced last January I guess.. but only NRFC. Not RFC

That new rule only apply to NRFC not RFC. You can send from your NRFC to offshore account of yours without governor's concern. . That is the new rule.

HSBC have a solution for that. They can instantly open a rfc with any currency. So if you have different remitance currencies. You could use different accounts such as GBP for uk and CAD for canada remittances..
